Security tools are priced per user, and the per-user number is usually low — a few dollars a month. The cost that matters is what's bundled versus what's an add-on, because the features that make a security tool worth having are often the ones that aren't in the base price.

Where the real cost is

SSO as a paid tier. The single most common pattern: basic accounts are cheap, but SAML or SCIM provisioning — the thing that makes the tool manageable for a real company — is only on the business or enterprise plan, at two to four times the price. If you need SSO, that's your comparison point.

Advanced policy and reporting. Enforced 2FA, breach monitoring, dark-web scanning, admin dashboards, and audit exports are frequently metered as add-ons or gated one tier up. A tool that looks cheaper can end up more expensive once you've added the controls a security review will ask for.

Family versus business versus team. Password managers in particular sell near-identical products under three names at three prices. The business plan often costs more per person than the family plan for fewer consumer features and more admin ones — make sure you're comparing the plan you'd actually deploy.
